THREE MANAGEMENT TIPS FOR LONELINESS

Being separated from family and loved ones, whether due to work, loss, or conflict, can make this a difficult and lonely time of year.

We may feel disconnected from others and as if no one truly understands, listens to, or values our business.
Here are some suggestions to get you started.

GET IN TOUCH WITH OTHERS
Feeling lonely is never easy, and reaching out to others can be difficult or frightening. But, at this time of year, it’s important to communicate with the people in your life and let them know how you’re feeling.

You can do this in any way that makes you feel at ease. It could be as simple as a text message, a phone call, or a social media message. You could also meet with a friend or family member one-on-one.

And, if you are experiencing persistent sadness and loneliness, it is always a good idea to seek professional assistance.

THINK ABOUT LONELINESS IN NEW WAYS.
Loneliness, like all negative emotions, is an important and valid part of the human experience. Loneliness indicates a desire for connection. It stems from a part of ourselves that wishes to help others. We might not realise how important meaningful relationships are to us if we never felt lonely.

So, thinking differently about loneliness is a good first step in dealing with it. We can choose to see loneliness as a healthy part of ourselves that motivates us to connect with others rather than viewing these feelings negatively and being hard on ourselves.

This way of framing loneliness can help us feel better about ourselves and more optimistic about seeking meaningful relationships.

REESTABLISH CONNECTION WITH YOURSELF
If we find it difficult to connect with others or genuinely don’t have many social opportunities, a good place to start is with ourselves. When we take care of ourselves, we are more likely to be positive, and feelings of loneliness have less of an impact on us.

There is no correct or incorrect way to do this. A good place to start is to brainstorm some activities that make us feel good and then start doing them.

Plan one enjoyable activity per day and keep track of how it makes you feel.
