Taking control of our environment and making positive changes can be difficult at times. However, you do not have to relocate to a new home to improve your living situation. There are numerous small changes you can make to improve your overall well-being.

1.  Substitute natural cleaning products for chemical cleaning products.


It is critical to be aware of the hazardous chemicals found in many conventional cleaning products. These chemicals can be toxic and hazardous to your health as well as the environment.

Natural alternatives to chemical-based cleaners abound. Baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice, and essential oils are all excellent natural cleaning product ingredients.

2. Reduce Allergens and Improve Indoor Air Quality


You may be allergic to dust or other allergens in your home if you frequently have itchy eyes, sneeze frequently, or feel wheezy.

You can do a few things to reduce allergens in your environment. The first step is to keep your home clean and dust-free. Make sure to wash your bedding on a regular basis. When possible, use a vacuum cleaner and open windows to improve ventilation.

Consider carefully how you use screens in your home. Instead of watching television in bed, turn it off a couple of hours before bedtime and read instead.

If you work from home, take frequent screen breaks and get up and move around throughout the day. And, when you’re not using your devices, turn them completely off to avoid the temptation to constantly check them.

6. Use Recycled and Eco-Friendly Materials in Your Home


Using recycled and eco-friendly materials is an excellent way to reduce your environmental impact.

Of course, this is beneficial to the environment. However, having the sense that you’re doing something good for the environment can have a positive impact on your mental health.

Begin with small steps, such as reducing your use of plastic. Using reusable cotton produce bags or avoiding plastic straws, for example, are simple ways to reduce your use of single-use plastics.

Simple things like not leaving the tap running while brushing your teeth or turning off the light when leaving a room can also make a significant difference.

7. Make Your Home a Stress-Free Zone


Your home should be a tranquil haven where you can unwind from the stresses of daily life. Of course, in practise, this is easier said than done, especially if you have a busy family life.

Instead, make one room or a corner of your home a stress-free zone. This could be your bedroom, a living room corner, or even a garden shed. Make it a peaceful place where you can relax and de-stress.

Plants, candles, photos of loved ones, or soft furnishings that make you happy should be displayed in the space. And make use of the space by reading, napping, meditating, or simply relaxing.
